NEWS: Things are really progressing on City of Rott, and should be wrapping up sometime in early October, if things stay on track. Either way, you don't want to miss City of Rott, one of the most insane zombie films around. July 18th, 2005. NEWS: COMIC-CON 2005. Very cool to see all the big stars like Ray Park (Darth Maul), Kenny Baker (R2D2), Chewbacca (the tall guy), The Rock (Doom Movie), Joss Whedon (Buffy Vampire, Serenity Movie), Len Wiseman and Kate Beckinsdale (Underworld Evolution), Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding/Devil's Rejects), Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead/I got his autograph twice), Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead), David S. Goyer (Batman Begins and Blade), Stan Lee (Spider-Man Writer), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Creator (Heavy Metal Booth), Lloyd Kaufman (Toxic Avenger) and plenty more. I missed Natalie Portman and Jack Black to name a few. Oh yeah, and the Chicken Chop Shop cartoon screened at the CCIFF (Independent Film Fest) to it's second audience. I was there to answer some questions. Overall, Comic-Con 2005 was awesome!! June 24, 2005. NEWS: LAND OF THE DEAD, by George A. Romero was pretty cool for a zombie movie. It covered all the basics that make a good zombie film, including the zombie numbers, attacks, head shots, eating and gore. For an R rating, it delivered. Cholo, played by Leguizamo, was probably my favorite human character. Overall, it was an update by Romero to his zombie films, and a nice effort to pay a little more respect to the zombies by making them slightly smarter. Okay, they followed the leader and used tools, but thankfully, that's as smart as they got. No smarter than Bub I'd say. I'm looking forward to the uncut DVD this fall. June 22, 2005. NEWS: The new "CITY OF ROTT" trailer is NOW available online at www.ifilm.com. Catch all the gory action while you can. Great news for fans of The Chicken ChopShop. One episode will be presented at this year's COMIC-CON 2005 convention for the Independent Film Fest, on Saturday, July 16th, 2005 at 12:30 to 1pm, Room 26AB. The convention runs from Thursday to Sunday in San Diego, CA and guest stars include Bruce Campbell from Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Movies. In 2004, 87,000 visitors attended the event in only 4 days. www.comic-con.org. May 18, 2005. NEWS. Some major news for FSudolArt fans. www.blackarro.com is the site to visit if you enjoy my style. And if you like zombie movies, that doesn't hurt either. The site is my new animation production studio, BLACKARRO PRODUCTIONS, whose first film is titled, "CITY OF ROTT". It's gruesome, it's disgusting, and it's got a ton of zombies, and a cool story of a lonely old man wandering the filthy streets of Rott City. But don't take it from me, head to www.blackarro.com right now to find out more!!! May 3, 2005. NEWS. The zombie film is going great so far, and it's nothing like the Chicken ChopShop, which is more of a kids cartoon. This thing is pretty violent, despite the cartoon look of it all. I'm also going to start under a new studio. I'll have the link soon. Later, and keep drawing! April 23, 2005. NEWS. Check out the blackarro link and find out more about the zombie/living dead project being developed. April 6, 2005. NEWS. Ifilm.com is currently featuring "Rise Zombie Rise", a short 1 minute humorous skit of a zombie trying to grab a bite and having no luck. Here's the link of the short I created. On that note, I have a much more serious zombie feature in the works, which takes a darker approach and features a different style and look to the zombies, though it does have some humor from time to time (Afterall, these are zombies we're talking about.) This is my best production to date, excluding The Chicken Chop Shop Series. It's an end of the world scenario with rabid zombies all over the place. Of course there's a story to it as well. More later. March 24, 2005. NEWS. With episode 6 of the Chicken ChopShop in production, I've had some time to create a new project. I'll post some still frames up one day, but the story involves Zombies in a giant city, and lots of them, so if you like Dawn of the Dead, you'd probably dig this. It's inspired by George A. Romero's films especially, with an emphasis on the zombies. Anyway, the production is one of my best, with a style similar to my more detailed monster illustrations. The story is cool too. More news coming soon. March 9, 2005. NEWS. Besides the Chicken ChopShop series, I'm working on a couple new projects. One is an action toon featuring some kick ass motorcycles, and the other is about a zombie. The one about the zombie has some high detail animation, which I rarely have time to do. Jan. 29, 2005. NEWS. See the brand new Chicken ChopShop Preview Trailer at ifilm.com. Here's the address to catch the latest scoop of this crazy cartoon series. Sorry, the link is offline right now. Jan. 8, 2005. NEWS. So the new site is up. It looks much cleaner than that other thing I had. Anyway, The Chicken ChopShop is my main focus right now. I'm working on it whenever I'm not doing other artwork or at my job. Jan. 6, 2005. NEWS. Frank's SOUTH PARK Animation Experience... Check out Southparkstudios.com "Back in 1998, I worked on the South Park Movie: Bigger, Longer & Uncut in California for a one year contract. If you watch the credits, you'll see my name listed twice, (Frank Sudol) under Additional Animator and Assistant Technical Director. David Yanover was my Supervisor. I don't think he's doing the show anymore though. I found an ad in Animation Magazine, sent it in with my demo reel and got the job to my surprise. I lived in NJ at the time, so it would be a big deal to drive cross country to work. I managed the trip in six days, found an apartment and eventually got to work when the script was ready." "Most of my animation was focused on lip synching the mouths for the South Park Characters, such as Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny. Kenny was the easiest, since he didn't have a mouth to animate, but that's obvious. Terrance and Phillip's character's required me to flip the top of their heads back and forth to the voices. Lip synching takes time, frame by frame each sound must be carefully identified and matched with the appropriate mouth. Cartman was my favorite character to animate, thanks to his constantly funny lines and voice. Sometimes, there was 10 or more characters to animate mouths for, which really took a long time." "I met Trey Parker and Matt Stone a couple times. The first time was at a Crew Party. I got there early and walked up to them while they were sitting at a bar. They were facing away, so I didn't recognize them. I asked them if they knew where the bathroom was. They directed me and I said thanks. They said "No problem." (Some story, huh?) They were also at the studio a lot too. Matt would shoot hoops outside every now and then. He was pretty good. Most of the time, they were behind closed doors, hard at work on rewriting the script. They would make general annoucements to the crew once in awhile, usually thanking everybody for their hard work and effort. The movie went right up to the deadline, just before it was released the summer of 1999. If I remember, it was June 30th, according to the trailer anyway. " "When I worked on the Technical Directing, I had a chance to model some characters, buildings and props, as well as set up some scenes. I created the winter coat and hat guy shoveling snow outside a store in the intro song Stan sings. I also had a chance to appear in the film as a character I made of myself. During the last line of Terrance and Phillips "Uncle Song", I'm the character just left of the duo, wearing all black. It's the only character that's wearing black in that shot, so it's impossible to miss. I set-up and animated all the characters' heads in that particular shot too, so I remember it well. Another scene I remember animating was when Stan, Cartman, Kyle and Kenny are trying to buy tickets for the Terrance/Phillip movie. They're talking to a bumb, trying to convince him to pretend he's with them, so they can get in since they're too young to see an R rated film. Plenty more scenes I did the lip synching for, along with the hard-working South Park Team." "I had a chance to work on a couple episodes of the show, but just for training purposes for the movie. Marina del Rey is where the TV studio was located. Casa Bonita is what they called it. Just in case, that means "beautiful house". It was a cool place. There was a jungle theme near the entrance, decked with plants and tropical painted walls. The studio had a tall ceiling, and some of the cubicles for the computers had straw/bamboo huts built around them. I guess it was all done for atmosphere. The movie studio was bigger, but not as customized." "Overall, working at South Park was a cool experience, from August 10th, 1998 till May 25th, 1999, close to a year. I learned a lot about the movie making process. The biggest set back I can think of was the constant rewrites of the script. There were a ton of animations that were scrapped. The hours were pretty demanding too. Six days a week, twelve or more hours a day. Sometimes, they'd ask us to work 7 days. Movies are like that though. There's a deadline that has to be met. To the big studios, time is money. Not much time to relax and enjoy your work. Oh well. Keep that in mind if you're planning to work in the movies. It's fun, but tough. And when the movie's finished, you need to look for another job." Speaking of South Park, I got a really good laugh out of the puppet movie they made, 'Team America: World Police'. Being a huge fan of The Terrahawks, and a decent fan of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlett, I got a kick out of watching these puppets, and was happy they found that style appealing enough to make a movie out of it. Of course from what I heard, it was a pain in the ass according to them, and they'd never do it again. It still turned out to be a funny movie... |

WWW.FSUDOLART.COM Welcome to FSudolArt.com. At FSudolArt, you'll see lots of illustrations I've created over the past number of years. I consider myself a cartoonist first, then an illustrator second. Cartooning is way more fun than having to match the standards of what things are "supposed" to look like in real life. Of course, that's just my opinion, since there's a ton of great artists out there who feel the opposite way. -FSudol |

| Wanna Learn how to Draw Cartoons? It's a good idea to start simple. Don't grab a pencil thinking you're going to immediately start drawing like a pro. Start by learning to draw the eyes. All different styles of eyes; vary the shape, sizes, expressions, etc. Round eyes, narrow eyes, big eyes, small eyes, no pupils, pupils... The whole idea of this simple lesson is to find a style you like and think would work for you. Then move on to the head, the body, legs, arms, etc. Just create the parts, don't think of the whole thing just yet. -FSudol | |||||||||||||
